A CNAME (Canonical Name) record<\/strong> is a DNS record that maps one domain to another, acting as an alias. For example, blog.example.com<\/em> can point to example.com<\/em>, ensuring it always redirects to the main site. Unlike a 301 redirect<\/strong>, which happens at the browser level and changes the URL, a CNAME works at the DNS level without altering the address in the browser.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this article, you will find a guideline on what steps you need to take to add a CNAME<\/strong> record via the WPX Control Panel<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 1. Log in to your WPX account<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Begin by logging into your WPX account. You can do this by visiting the WPX login page<\/a>.\u200b<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 2. Go to Control Panel<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Once logged in:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Locate your hosting plan in the WPX client area.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Click the Control Panel<\/strong> button next to the plan you wish to manage.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    If you have more than five hosting plans of the same type (WordPress, Agency or WooCommerce), not all may appear on the homepage. Use the WordPress Hosting<\/strong>, Agency Hosting<\/strong> or WooCommerce Hosting<\/strong> tab in the left-hand menu to find your service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Step 3. Navigate to the DNS Editor<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    1. Select the Edit DNS<\/strong> section.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    2. Select the website<\/strong> to which you want to add a CNAME record.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    3. Click on the +Create Record<\/strong> button to add a new record.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      In the same section you can see all<\/strong> DNS records added for the selected website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Step 4. Add the CNAME record<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

      After clicking the +Create Record<\/strong> button, a new setup area will appear, allowing you to add your CNAME<\/strong> record.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      1. Select the Type <\/strong>of the record to be CNAME<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      2. Add the Host<\/strong> name. This would be the subdomain you want to point to (e.g., blog <\/em>for blog.example.com<\/em>).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      3. Add Value\/Target<\/strong> for the destination domain (e.g., example.com<\/em> or custom.target.com<\/em>).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      4. Click on the Create<\/strong> button.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

        TTL (Time to Live) is a setting in DNS records that defines how long a record is cached before the system checks for updates. It\u2019s measured in seconds. You can leave it on the default value.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        And that\u2019s all! If all of the fields are correctly filled then you will see a note that the record is successfully added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        How can I check if the record I\u2019ve added is working?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

        A CNAME record<\/strong> becomes active once it has propagated across DNS servers, which can take anywhere from a few minutes to 48 hours<\/strong>. You can verify the CNAME records currently in use for your domain using an online tool<\/a><\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
