How can I migrate my website from GoDaddy?

To start a migration with WPX, filling up our Migration form is required as the first step (click here for our migration wizard guide). Different hosting companies provide all kinds of access to migrate a website. In this article, we will focus on the migrations from GoDaddy.

What’s different about GoDaddy Migrations?

To migrate a website, granting us access to the previous provider would be the best option, as our migration expert will be able to extract all they need (files/databases/mailboxes) for the process to go as smoothly as possible.

However, GoDaddy would require a temporary authentication log-in code which has to be provided by the account owner, so a specific person from our team of migration experts can log in and perform the migration.

That might turn into a time-consuming hassle if someone else from our migration experts has to continue the process and is unable to log back into GoDaddy’s account.

This is why we would much rather have a complete backup (files and database) provided upon filling up our Migration form. This way, we’ll avoid exchanging emails, which may consume a couple of hours (or even a day sometimes), and start working on the process almost immediately (depending on the migration queue).

Other options would also do the job, such as providing us with the following:

  • SSH access to the site.
  • FTP/SFTP and phpMyAdmin access.
  • Performing the migration using a WordPress plugin (if none of the above is an available option).
