Does WPX support Imagick & WebP module/library?

The most frequent questions we get when it comes to installed modules on our servers are about Imagick and WebP.

With this article, we want to clarify what we do and do not support and how this will affect your website.

Let’s start with Imagick

Currently, WPX does not have the Imagick library installed on our servers. However, this does not mean that your website or plugins requiring image processing will not function properly.

Instead of the Imagick library, we use the GD library, which is a powerful image-processing library that can perform the same essential functions as Imagick.

If you see a warning in any of your plugin settings/WP admin dashboard like “Warning The optional module, Imagick, is not installed, or has been disabled.” – do not worry, the GD library will handle image processing efficiently for your website.

What about WebP?

Since WordPress 5.8, WebP images are natively supported. This means you can:

  • Upload WebP images directly to your WordPress media library.
  • Convert, resize, and optimize WebP images using compatible WordPress plugins.

WPX fully supports WebP image formats, allowing you to take advantage of their compression and quality benefits.
